A baby shower, y’all

This invite is a custom design for a Texas girl living in the midwest. A red, white and blue color palette printed on paper bag craft paper gives it a youthful, western feel without getting cutesy. No word yet on if the little one will be a cowboy or a cowgirl, but we here at LLB Designs have our suspicions…

Gymboree party invitation

This lucky little two-year old got to have a Gymboree birthday party, complete with cake, parachute time and bubbles. The invitations set the tone for the good times ahead with fun, girly colors, playful shapes and casual fonts. The overall effect is cute and age appropriate — with nary a princess or unicorn in sight. (Not that we don’t love a good princess now and then).

Lingerie shower invitation

Ah, the lingerie shower. There is nothing like planning a party that has to somehow combine class and underwear to challenge even the most capable of hostesses. Fortunately it is possible and these little invitations are a great start. Combining black with shades of pink creates a look that is sophisticated but not too racy, while flirty typography and girly details such as polka dots and bows add a touch of whimsical fun.

Fiesta invitations

This fiesta engagement party called for some fun, colorful invitations that didn’t resort to cliche sombrero and pinata clip art. Bright primary colors and a stylish floral design set the tone for the party and the cute square shape framed the artwork.

The bride and groom are dog lovers, so a small, subtle silhouette of their super cute pups was incorporated onto the back of the invitation. This gave it that little bit of personalization without overshadowing the fiesta concept.

The best part about using a fun combination of classic colors is all of the readily available party accessories. Cups, plates and even curly straws in coordinating blue, red, purple and yellow tied it all together without the expense of custom supplies.

49ers Bowl for Youth

The San Francisco 49ers are at their do-gooding again, this time sponsoring a bowling event benefiting at-risk youth in the bay area. On May 26, 2011 they will host the 49ers Bowl for Youth event, with proceeds benefiting the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA, Simon Youth Foundation, and the 49ers Foundation. This evening not only involves bowling, great food and beverages, silent auctions and raffles, but also promises to feature a bunch of Niner legends including Dwight Clark, John Taylor, Keena Turner, Guy McIntyre and Dennis Brown.

LLB Designs got to design a logo for the event, as well as the save-the-date postcard. Both were a blast to work on and incorporated simple bowling illustrations along with the bold 49ers color pallette. It can be tricky incorporating a bunch of smaller logos into one event logo, but this one gets it done nicely while maintaining a clean, uncluttered look.

Bridal luncheon invitation

Nothing is more fun than a full wedding weekend of parties and events. This lovely bride in Dallas, TX sent the guys off to tour the new Cowboys Stadium and gathered the girls together for manicures and pedicures followed by a bridal luncheon. The luncheon hostesses knew that the bride was a well-seasoned traveler and that the happy couple in fact got engaged while visiting Germany, so a travel theme was just the ticket.

Pink and green invitations sported personalized passport stamps of places the bride has visited during her travels. Custom menu cards and luggage tag party favors rounded out the theme and incorporated personal details such as the bride’s new married name and the wedding date, along with more cheeky slogans such as “Marriage or Bust!” and “Bon Voyage.”

Quoted: Graduation invitations

This tongue-in-cheek graduation party invitation was designed for Clay Daigle (note: Laura Lee Daigle’s better half) for his recent graduation with a Ph.D. After five years in school there was plenty to celebrate and the invite needed to have some personality while still paying homage to the importance of the event. The front side of the z-fold invitation featured color photos of the almost-doctor on the Stanford campus and in nearby San Francisco, along with the graduation ceremony and party details. Classic fonts, the school’s official cardinal color (PMS 201, in fact) and logo were all present and correct.

The back is where things got a little crazy – in a good way, of course. Quotes from various “doctors” scattered the back of the invite ranging from respected real-life experts to favorite TV and movie characters. Some are deep, some are funny, and some are completely and totally random, combining for a fun and unexpected tribute to those that call themselves Doctor.

PALing around: save the date postcard

The Mountain View Police Activities League (MVPAL) is a very cool community service organization benefiting at-risk youth. MVPAL offers recreational and leadership opportunities to kids, with the goal of building understanding and communication between youth and police officers, which in turn diverts the kids from gangs and crime. So again, very cool! MVPAL is holding a fundraiser gala in the fall and LLB Designs was asked to provide design services for some fun pieces including save the dates and invitations. The save the dates, pictured above, were designed to be a simple, cost-effective postcard featuring the organization’s logo and color palette. The theme of the event, “Celebrate MVPAL’s Rock Stars”, is prominent and uses a police badge in the typography to reinforce the backbone of the event. Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View is donating their venue for the event, and a stylized representation of the facility’s distinct silhouette frames the design and adds a bit of visual interest. And to top it all off, the printing was generously donated by Google, which is also based in Mountain View, CA.

Bridal luncheon invites: peppy and pretty (to match Jill and her posse)

Remember this sassy bride-to-be? When it came time for all of the actual knot-tying to take place some of her nearest and dearest got together to throw her a bridal luncheon the morning of the big day. The dress code was deemed “flip flop casual”, and a request was put in for a “festive wildflowery” invitation. LLB Designs got on it and the result was this floral invite with happy colors and scripty fonts for a look and feel that is casual and whimsical, but of course still appropriate for a wedding day event. Congrats, again, to the new Mr. and Mrs.!
